Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the mission of the Three Rivers Rowing Association Juniors Boosters Organization?
The mission of the Three Rivers Rowing Association Juniors Boosters Organization is to provide financial and logistical support to the TRRA Juniors rowing program in its goal of teaching the sport of rowing and in fostering a lifelong dedication to physical fitness among Pittsburgh area youth.
2. Why is Youth Rowing an important activity?
With many of today’s young people living increasingly sedentary lifestyles, and with youth obesity rates soaring to record levels, the sport of rowing offers an activity which engages the entire body, and which, with practice and discipline, results in incredibly high levels of physical fitness. But, perhaps more important, rowing is a sport that anyone, regardless of physical prowess, can become competitive. In fact, the TRRA Juniors program welcomes any 13 to 18 year olds – all that is required is a desire to row and a commitment to work. Rowing is also one of the few sports in which one can engage for a lifetime. Today’s junior rower may well be competing as a “master” in his or her 50’s and 60’s.
3. How Does the Boosters Organization support youth rowing?
The Boosters Organization assists youth rowing in a variety of capacities. One important responsibility is fundraising. As boats and other equipment age, they wear out and must be replaced. This equipment can be very expensive – in fact just one boat may cost in excess of $30,000. Thus, raising money to give these our young people the tools they need to engage in the sport. The Boosters Organization also lends logistical support to rowers at races – making sure that they are fed and sheltered while they compete and assisting with transportation.
4. What is the relationship of the Boosters Organization to the Three Rivers Rowing Association?
The Boosters Organization is an unincorporated association which was organized under the corporate umbrella of Three Rivers Rowing Association, a non-profit corporation. While the Boosters Organization has its own Bylaws, Board of Directors, and Officers, it does not exist separately from TRRA. The Boosters Organization works cooperatively with the TRRA staff and Board members to support the TRRA’s Juniors team.
